I am reminded in Exodus 32 that the human heart is a factory for producing idols. Idols are not limited to shrines and golden calves. They are anything that substitutes for God. Idols signify the direction of your heart. As Stephen remarked in his sermon in Acts 7, in their hearts the people turned to Egypt. Even though they had been delivered out of Egypt, Egypt was still in their hearts.
