Brief Commentary on Exodus 21

by Matt Carter
In Exodus 21 I notice the implicit possibility that the LORD condoned or approved of slavery. Regulating a bad thing is not the same thing as condoning it. In Matthew 19 when the Pharisees make this assumption and question Jesus about it, Jesus' answer to them applies here as well. These regulations about slavery are here because of sin. In the beginning, it was not this way. In the end, it will not be this way.
