In Genesis 35 I notice that Jacob, after the tragedy and destruction at Shechem, is called by God to move back to Bethel. Jacob must start again. This time, the whole family must get rid of their false gods and devote themselves to the LORD. The family must have one God and one hope. They must walk away from idolatry and injustice. So the family now freely gives up their unjust plunder and false gods, and Jacob buries them.
