Brief Commentary on Genesis 31

by Matt Carter
What I notice in Genesis 31 is the contrast between the faithful promise-keeping and covenants that the LORD makes with people and the deceitfulness and covenants made between people. This seems nicely summed up in verse 46, which describes the heap of stones made to mark the covenant between Laban and Jacob. This was no altar, and these two men never even agreed on what name to call this heap.
